Nodules occur when the clogged pores are further irritated, resulting in a growth in size. They are under the surface of the skin, hence they are treated by prescribed medications.

Cysts

Cysts are caused by a combination of sebum, bacteria, and dead skin cells clogging the pores. They occur even deeper than nodules and are found below them. They are painful bumps that appear to be red or white in color.
